Hello, Does Traktor Pro 3 have a native mapping for the Denon SC2000 controller? I am hesitant to upgrade my Mac OS to Catalina unless I know Traktor Pro 3 has a mapping just like Traktor Pro 2 for the Denon SC2000.

• Hi Guys,
Am new to the site and found some very good info on here and theres alot of people that seem to know what there talking about. I am looking to buy my first controller as a bedroom dj, for my price range I have narrowed it down to these models. Numark N4, Citronic MPX10, American audio VMS4 and the Vestax VCI 100. The control I really wanted was the Denon mc-3000 but cannot find it for less then 500 which i feel is a bit pricey for me and also
its ready for traktor which il be honest about, I struggle to beat match hip hop on Traktor compared to VDJ. Im
told im not alone on this.

> First Question – Other then the two extra channels on the VMS4 compared to its VMS2, what else does the
S4 offer that the S2 cant?

> Also, there is a more expensive Traktor verison of the VMS4, is it really worth the £100 price diff? also have heard
there have been alot of people that have problems with the VMS4?

>The control I know the least about is the Vestax, can anyone advise if good or bad?

I seem to be drawn towards the Citronic also known as about 6 other brands. The reason for this is I like the look, it works as a midi and also like that fact I can take it round a mates and no lappy needed just plug in the speakers and have a mix. Guys apologies if this is a bit long winded but would really appreciate responses from who ever does as
I feel picking the first control to properly learn on is a critical buy for me lol.. cheers guys look forward to hearing what everyone has to say. P.S the reason I havent considered pioneer ergo is because when playing with it in the shop I felt if i was to move it then it would snap in half!

Hi Mark!

Instead of answering all your q’s I have two other suggestions.

If you really want the MC3000 (wich IMO is the best choice of all above)
and you can not affor it.
Eather look at buying 2x Denon SC2000 and a Traktor certified mixer
(Denon x600) list of some of the certified units:
http://co.native-instruments.com/index.php?id=traktorready
If the cost is OK?

Or you could start with the famous Numark Mixtrak Pro and eather you are satisfied with that or you save up and get a Denon MC3000/6000 in ayear or two 🙂

I will try to answer your questions tmorrow when I do have more time 🙂

If you go with VDJ LE unfortunately you wouldn’t be able to use your computer speakers as this software only uses the soundcard on the controller, that is not a problem with vdj pro as it has very flexible routing options, although that will cost between $150 – $300 depending on the upgrade.

If you want to test out the pro features you can activate the pro trial for 21 days that will unlock all the software options including the soundcard setup.

for a controller your best bet after the mc3000 would be either the N4 or mixtrack pro, but they are plastic so will probably have issues within a year of owning, I highly recommend you save a little more for the denon as this will last a very long time, and have a good resale value, compared to the numark offerings.

Also forgot about the reloop Terminal 4 Mix, this will come with vdj, and would definately be better than either of the numark controllers, not sure of the RRP though or the release date, it should be announced at NAMM.

I started off with the Numark Mixtrack Pro and since i did not have any other controller thought it was awesome. Since then i have upped my setup quite a bit. I am a bit of a gearslut BUT need to make sure my gear is road worthy for gigs. With that said. Here are my 2 cents:

Beatmatching with VDJ vs Traktor vs Serato is all the same. Beatmatching is something that should always be done with ear. No matter how good the software is, nothing will beat your ears for perfect matching. The style of music you plan on DJing also is a huge factor in what software you are going to use. VDJ is known as the underdog between Traktor and Serato, but is still a vary usable software. Personally as I spin strickly EDM cuz its what i love, Traktor is the obvious choice for me. Traktor has a plethora of abilities that VDJ and Serato is still trying to catch up to but they are all really good…just designed for different things in mind.

Hardware:
If you are going with Traktor the S4 and the S2 are hands down the best controllers to use. Why? GREAT integration with the traktor software, and both the S2 and the S4 come with full pro versions of Traktor. These are the ONLY controllers that come with a FULL version of Traktor Pro. This has to come into play when considering which controller to buy. I personally love the MC3000 and was planning on picking one up….until i saw the release for the DJTT VCI controller.
Since you are just starting up i would suggest you do not spend a boat load of money on gear and just get the basics, who knows in 2 months u may end up hating it and then hitting yourself for spending a ton of money on stuff you never use anymore. With proper mapping you can make the Mixtrack Pro do anything you want.

That is a popular misconception, perpetrated by misinformed people. VDJ can not only do everything traktor can do, It can do more, it just looks different…

Negative…Traktor has keylock on sample decks, Platter control allowing scratching of set samples. As well applying effects to each specific sample. With the release of the new Traktor software coming up will allow sample banks to load multiple samples. As well with Traktor you have the ability to map multiple effects and control amounts with 1 controller ie encoder/platter. The control of Timecode in VDJ is pretty terrible vs Traktor.

As well most of the effects in VDJ sound pretty terrible vs Traktor…This is a well known fact.

I am in the Traktor camp obviously by my statement…I started off with VDJ…but after 1 year had enough.

I am curious…what are the “do more” that traktor cannot do? I have not used VDJ in a long time and am very interested in this.

in regard to the samples you hae two options, first there is the standard sampler, this also has recording, looping, beatlock, pitch matching. But if you want to get a bit more indepth vdj has 99 decks available with skins that allow you to use those 99 decks, with this function you can do anything that a deck can do, so scratching, effects, video samples, looping, beatlock, pitch matching, pitch changing etc… The one shortcoming in this area is that you can’t loop an entire track with one button, however this should be fixed in the next version.

for the normal samples there is a plugin that can load and save as many sample banks as you require, you can also load with mapping “sample 1 load “filepath/to/sample.mp3”.you can also load all 12 banks with one button by linking them together with “&” eg

“sample 1 load “filepath/to/sample.mp3” & sample 2 load “filepath/to/sample.mp3 & etc…”

If however you want to use the the extra decks there is the verbs “load_deck_set” and “save_deck_set” this will save all the the tracks loaded on all the decks.

Something in relation to the sampler which is great in traktor that cant be done properly in vdj is the loop recorder, that looks like fun.

One shortcoming in mapping that traktor has is you can’t program a knob/slider to do something at a specific value, so if you want to do something in traktor you need to use modifiers that always work. however in vdj you can do different things in defferent sections of the knob with modifiers set as well. eg

param_greater 50% ? param_add -50% & param_multiply 200% & effect ‘flanjet’ active on & effect ‘flanjet’ slider 1 : param_invert & param_add -50% & param_multiply 200% & effect ‘crusher’ slider 1 : effect ‘qb_filter’ active on & effect ‘qb_filter’ slider 2 70% & effect ‘qb_filter’ slider 3

this is a pretty simple mapping compared to some I have come up with but essentially it will be a lp/hp filter on one setting but for the second in the first half of the knob it will be a bit crusher for the second half it will be a flanger. That you cant do in traktor LOL.

For encoders, unless you set variables that the encoder changes you can only use modifiers to do things like change effect parameters, so exactly the same as traktor

I was the first to say that vdj’s standard effects are terrible, and they are, however the user provided ones in combination with vst’s are incredibly powerful, the only short coming that I have found in that area is the beatmashers and rolls use the buffer to make the effects, this means you can’t chain realtime effects and buffer effects, but every realtime effect can be chained as far as you want to push it.

You also get video mixing, video effects and transitions, support for anything that sends midi, native HID so no third party applications changing messages. endless audio routing options, timecode, key detetion, great browser, rewire, and now there is dmx integration with freestyler for a real beatsynced light show that was just released.

there is more indepth things you can do in relation to video, browser, skins etc…

The biggest advantage of VDJ though is that mapping is done with script that you can type up and paste into the mapper, there is no limitations in relation to variables, and you can fit about 50 lines in word pad of script for each button/slider/knob/led I hit the limit once LOL. Almost forgot that in vdj you can do two things at once with mapping… cant do that is traktor 😉

I really hate getting into the “vs.” type conversations (actually, as I keep jumping into them, maybe I secretly love it) but I can’t let ridiculous statements go unchecked – it’s part of my personality.

Comparing a new and unreleased version of a program to an older version of another program doesn’t make sense. Using that logic my PC beats the hell out of an Apple IIe, so I guess the PC vs. Apple war is now officially over.

Watch your step as you all rush to throw out your Macbooks.

@Mark
I will now try to answer your Qs

> First Question – Other then the two extra channels on the VMS4 compared to its VMS2, what else does the
S4 offer that the S2 cant?
Here is an comparsion chart:

> Also, there is a more expensive Traktor verison of the VMS4, is it really worth the £100 price diff? also have heard
there have been alot of people that have problems with the VMS4?
This q is not so easy for me to answer, as a beginner I think no, but if you are serious about your DJing it might not take long before you want to have the 4track or more, look at the comparsion chart:
http://www.native-instruments.com/#/en/products/dj/traktor-pro-2/?page=1991

>The control I know the least about is the Vestax, can anyone advise if good or bad?
That depends on what Vestax you mean, My experience is that Vestax is not that good but I know that there is other people thinking different.
